Dr Shyam K Bhat MD is an integrative medicine specialist and a neuropsychiatrist. He integrates western medicine and psychiatry, with Yoga psychology, eastern healing traditions, meditation, and Vedanta.
Dr Shyam K Bhat MD is board certified by the American Board of Internal medicine (ABIM) and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), with additional certification in Psychosomatic Medicine.
Dr Bhat graduated with an MBBS, from Bangalore Medical College in 1996, and trained in psychiatry and internal medicine in England, and the United States. After completing a 5 year combined residency program in internal medicine and psychiatry at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Dr Bhat joined the faculty at SIU, where he was the founder and medical director of the Integrative Medicine services at the Center for Living at St John's Hospital, Springfield, Illinois.
In 2009, Dr Bhat moved back to Bangalore and he now divides his time between India and the United States.
He serves on the editorial boards of Health Services Insights, and
Clinical Medicine: Case reports. He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American College of Physicians, and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
His writings have been published in journals such as the American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, and various magazines and newspapers in India and the United States. He authors a popular blog for physicians on Medscape.com.
He has conducted a writing workshop for physicians, under the auspices of the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop.
